A Laboratory-Scale Instrumented Forging Hammer as an Intermediate Strain Rate Testing Device

نویسندگان

چکیده

Mechanical characterisation of metallic materials at intermediate strain rates is essential to calibrate and validate computational models for industrial applications such as high-speed forming processes i.e. hammer forging, blanking, forming, etc. The most common devices that perform medium high loading rate experiments are the servo-hydraulic universal testing machines Split Hopkinson bar systems. Here we analyse possibility employing an in-house designed constructed DirectImpact Drop Hammer (DIDH) material mechanical rates, ranging from 100 300 s -1 . To show suitability DIDH characterisation, uniaxial compression on S235JR structural steel conducted compared with finite element (FE) simulations performed elasticthermoviscoplastic model previously calibrated Pressure Bar (SHPB) tests.

A laboratory study of rock properties affecting the penetration rate of pneumatic top hammer drills

In this paper, after collecting the rock samples from eight mines and one high way slope, the tests for determination of dry density, Uniaxial Compressive Strength, tensile Strength (Brazilian Test), elastic modulus, Schmidt hammer rebound number have been done on samples. In addition, in order to calculating the mean size of rock grains, quartz content, hardness and abrasivity, a thin sections...

Intermediate Strain - Rate LoadingExperiments - Techniques and Applications

Gas guns and velocity interferometric techniques have been used to determine the loading behavior of AD995 alumina rods 19 mm in diameter by 75 mm and 150 mm long, respectively. Graded-density materials were used to impact both bare and sleeved alumina rods while the velocity interferometer was used to monitor the axial-velocity of the free end of the rods. Results of these experiments demonstr...

Ex Vivo Evaluation of Cementless Acetabular Cup Stability Using Impact Analyses with a Hammer Instrumented with Strain Sensors

The acetabular cup (AC) implant stability is determinant for the success of cementless hip arthroplasty. A method based on the analysis of the impact force applied during the press-fit insertion of the AC implant using a hammer instrumented with a force sensor was developed to assess the AC implant stability. The aim of the present study was to investigate the performance of a method using a ha...

Aggregate Memory as an Intermediate Checkpoint Storage Device

Applications that generate bursty I/O load, like checkpointing, require additional support to perform efficiently on next generation petascale supercomputers. Tens of thousands of processors, generating terabytes of snapshot data at once at each timestep, can easily overwhelm a storage system. Further, even at the current peak I/O bandwidth rates, offered by parallel file system deployments at ...

Experimental Assessment of the Equivalent Strain Rate for an Instrumented Charpy Test

Instrumented Charpy test data can be used to obtain estimates of dynamic yield strength, by means of a well-established relationship published by W. Server in 1978. A fundamental issue in comparing measured dynamic tensile properties and Charpy-based estimations is establishing the equivalent uniaxial strain rate for an instrumented Charpy test, typically conducted at ≈ 5.5 m/s. In this investi...
